Internal motivation is when a person does something for the joy of doing it, for its own sake. However, internal motivation can also be destroyed if the activity is rewarded and the activity is interpreted as the pursuit of this reward.
According to the theory of self-determination, activity is influenced by three basic psychological needs: the need for competence (partly) the need for autonomy (I decide for myself) and the need to join (I am considered).
The operation can also be regulated, for example, by means of an executive intention. The decision to implement a plan in a particular situation at a particular point in time is called an executive intent. When I face situation x, then I act according to my goal. Implementation intentions have been shown to increase the likelihood of achieving a goal (Gollwitzser, 1993).
